Local reaction positive to Virginia's Waiver from No Child Left Behind

The news Friday that the U.S. Department of Education has granted a waiver to Virginia schools from the benchmarks of the federal No Child Left Behind law brought audible relief from commonwealth educators, political leaders and school board members.

The waiver removes meeting the adequate yearly progress mandate of the federal law, and the unrealistic requirement that all students achieve proficiency by 2014.
