STAUNTON, VA – Delegate Richard P. “Dickie” Bell issued the following statement today concerning the loss of the Honorable Justice George M. Cochran. Justice Cochran passed away Saturday, January 22, 2011 at his residence.
“I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the Honorable Justice George M. Cochran. Justice Cochran’s accolades are too numerous to mention them all. However, he was a public servant in every sense possible. He was a legislator, a State Supreme Court Justice, served on numerous boards and commissions in the local community, including being a founder of the Frontier Culture Museum. There is no doubt that the Shenandoah Valley and the entire Commonwealth of Virginia are better because of the service of Justice George M. Cochran. Virginia has lost one of its greatest citizens, and he will be sadly missed by many in the community and throughout the Commonwealth.”
Elected to the House of Delegates in 2009, Delegate Bell represents the 20th District, which includes Highland County, portions of Augusta and Rockingham Counties, and the City of Staunton.
