The Valley's voice on Virginia money matters got a lot bigger Wednesday, with Del. Richard P. "Dickie" Bell, R-Staunton, winning a place on the tax-writing House of Delegates Finance Committee.
The move onto one of the legislature's real power centers came unusually early for the second-term delegate.
"I don't know whether it's really going to mean a lot more influence on budget amendments, but based on the people knocking on my door today, I can tell you there are plenty who think so," Bell said Wednesday, shortly after Speaker of the House of Delegates William Howell, R-Stafford, announced the appointment.
