Area Legislators Ask State for I-81 Relief

WEYERS CAVE -- The message to VDOT staff and Virginia’s secretary of transportation was simple Tuesday from Shenandoah Valley General Assembly members: let’s work together on easing the clogged and dangerous Interstate 81.

A Commonwealth Transportation Board open house at Blue Ridge Community College featured Transportation Secretary Aubrey Layne and VDOT leadership.

They heard that it’s time to come up with both short and long-term answers to an interstate that now carries 42 percent of the truck traffic in Virginia.
